Be Philosopher

I don’t know that I am a good philosopher. This things must comes in Johari's window No.4 (neither I know nor any one)

It was a time of March 2009 when I was working in one life insurance Company.

I and my colleague both were on call in one of the Govt. office on Ashram road. Call was taken by my colleague because that govt. officer who was totally aware about nitty-gritty of all life insurance scheme and I was just a tyro to my job. The whole call was perfect but in the end of the call they both were stuck in conversation regarding stock exchange. My college was telling him that “Sir, now day’s sensex is down so it is the best time to invest your money in to ULIP because when recession will go sensex will come again at 16-18K” and that Govt. officer argued that on what basis you are telling me that sensex will come back at 16-18K. My colleague tried hard to explain him but that officer was not convinced.

While whole conversation I was sitting juxtapose to my colleague and pondering about stock exchange. And suddenly Govt. officer asked me “Dost tera kya vichar hai”(means what’s your view on stock exchange will it be back or not?)

My colleague was looking at me like game is over. And then suddenly I replied “look Sir, in 24 Hour we have almost 15 hours of day and 9 hours of night after every dark night there will be bright sunshine so whatever is going in stock exchange now is like dark night but soon it will over with ray of sun and we all have bright morning”

And when I finished my answer the other two officers who was also listening whole conversation literally laughed and I was like did I make any mistake?

He was stunned with my answer smiled and politely replied me that “You have a very long way to go but really I like your answer. I was not expecting this kind of answer from your side but you really I like your answer”

And when we came out from his office I didn’t speak anything because I fell that because I ruin his call but he told me that you saved me.

Another incident,

We and my boss made a call. This time I played whole game and at last convinced customer but when he asked for premium amount which I replied “Sir, minimum is 12k”

At that time I can clearly read customer’s facial expression and then he asked another question “12k..don't u think it is very odd figure, it should be 15K.”

I was laughing in my mind.

Then he asked the same question again to my boss “why premium amount is 12k instead of any round figure like 10k 0r 15k” my boss replied (after cleared his throat, so I understand that he is not going to answer properly and same thing happened) “Sir, premium is decide by top management and operation department we don’t know that how they are calculating premium?”

While the time customer was playing with his pen which he took out for signing cheque.

By observing his behaviour I felt that call is going out of hand so I just rash in to conversation and replied “Sir, you are right. Our premium amount was 15k before this January 2009 but this 3 months like JFM (January, February, March ..insurance people are use call this months JFM the most hectic months of year for them) in which people used to invest their money for tax saving purpose and 15K was a bit high amount for middle class and most of Indian family are middle class family so in order cater to more customer company reduce their premium .

“And one more thing is that recession is going on so all companies are reducing their premium amount is various types of plans this is just one of them and nothing dubious in premium of 12k”

Thank god…he was quiet convinced with my answer and signed cheque of 12K and gave me all documents and signed the form.

When we came at our office my boss didn’t tell me any thing about my arguments but his face was so blissful so I understood that he really likes what I did.

So when you get stuck in some kind of situation where you don’t know what is the answer then be Shakespeare and give answer confidently.

Fiasco of Apple III

First, the major reason was that it designed by its marketing head who was later appointed as a CEO Steve Jobs.

Second, the chip used in manufacturing of Apple III was made by National Semiconductor and was prone to useless after using long time.

Third, Apple directly fit chips in to motherboards so it was impossible to replace it, requiring soldering or a complete board replacement.

Fourth, Jobs wanted to reduce sounds which was generated by computer while operating so he designed it without cooling fan so that it would operate silently. He thought that the case could be engineered so that electronics would cool by convention and that heat would dissipate through chassis. This turned out to be incorrect and the chassis wasn’t able to adequately system, and Apple III became prone to overheating and crashing. When it would heat some of the IC would became disconnected from the motherboard.

And for such this type of computer they put a price $4340 to $7800. Far higher than the price of their competitor.

For this Apple had to replace as many as 14k of first Apple III for free.

Later on Apple released, Apple III plus was launched at $2995. The revised model fixed most of the problems and also included 256KB RAM, an Apple II keyboard etc. but the damage was already done.

Loophole in "Decison Making Model"

My thinking process is slightly different from others. And I am not much interested in studies but when study something new I used to apply my mind behind that theory.

In class of managerial communication before some days I learned decision making model. I forgot the name who invented it. Basically there are four steps in decision making model. These are as follows.

1) Find the Problem
2) Find different-different solution
3) Select the best alternative among them
4) Apply that

We studied this much in that theory but now I have question. This is a decision making model so after 4th step you need to check that whether your decision is right or not. so that you can check that what is the effectiveness of your decision?

So according to me 5th stage should be something like “FEEDBACK”.
From the feedback, I recall one nice quote so let me share it with you “Feedback is breakfast for Winner”.

Be Open

I learned one nice lesson during my job last year. It was completely marketing job so everyday I had to meet new-new people with different-different mind sets.

One day I was on call. It was 5 P.M. I was sitting in client’s office and waited for him. After 10-12 minutes he came and started to make apology for being late. In very polite manner I replied, “Its ok, Sir.” Then I started to chat with him regarding his family background and his other investments.

After some time, suddenly he called his servant by. His servant came in office and replied,”BOLO SAHEB”. Now my client was looking at me and asked me “chay chalegi na”. I replied, “No, Sir” then he asked me for coffee I denied again.

(This was our first meeting so I denied offer of tea and coffee but later I learned that just drink whatever client offer to you but dependence on situation because that tea, coffee or whatever will allow you to chat more with your client. And after all marketing is all about chatting. )

He forced me lot but I denied. At last he told me that “Sham ka time hai kuch to lena padega” (its an evening time please take something)

So I told him that “Ok sir, kuch bhi manga lo”

So finally he placed ordered to his servant “Suno mere liye ek chay aur ye bhai ke liye ek cup doodh(milk) le ke aao”. Servant was just about to left office but I stopped him and order him tea.

(Doodh order kar diya muje kya koi chota baccha samaj ki rakha hai)

Laughter of three of us spread out in office and delighted surroundings.

Then my client to me, “agar pehle hee chai ka order de diya hota to”

I had no answer for that question. I just smirked and took out some paper for presentation.

After finishing call when I went to my office and told this incident to my sale manager and my other colleague then they all laughed me at lot.

So, just be open while you are dealing with people. Otherwise you will be in trouble like me.

Steve Jobs- A Complete Maverick

Once up on a time, the person whose name was abdulfatah jandli and woman shibli fall in love but they got a child before their marriage. At that time actually they didn’t want that child so they gave that child to one married couple Paul and Klera and they baptize this child as “Steven” (Steve Jobs)

If we see schooling of Steve Jobs then there was nothing much remarkable. He was just an average student in school. But when he moved for his graduation he just left his studies in first semester. After that if he entered in any college then it was Stanford University in 2005.

At Stanford University he invited as chief guest. He delivered three speeches at Stanford University and they all were remarkable. In the Beginning of his speech he said that “I am not even a Graduate but today I am invited here as a chief guest” (all these speeches are available on internet just type” Steve Jobs at Stanford University” in Google)

During his schooling he used to go to HP for hearing their seminar. At HP he met with Stefan Wauznik. And both of them became friend .And at that time he accepted that Wauznik had more knowledge than him in electronics.

In 1970, Computer technology was not so much developed. At that time Jobs and Wauznik was working for ‘Atari’ and making computer games for that company. From the income of ‘Atari’ Steve Jobs and one of his friend came to India because they both were deeply interested in spirituality. They spent some months in India.

After returning from India in 1975, Wauznik and Steve both established a company named “Apple” and made world’s first desktop computer

In 1976, they made Apple –II.

Now, Problem of apple was CEO? Jobs and Wauznik both have enough knowledge regarding electronics but they both were lacking in experience.

So Steve Jobs offered this post to Jhon Scully who was CEO of PEPSI at that time. But Jhon scully reject that offer. But it was win-win situation for Steve jobs so kept torturing scully to be CEO of apple but scully was so much stubborn.

Then Steve Jobs started verbal attack on Scully and told him that “do you have wish to do something new for world or you are just interested in making colorful water.”
This dialogue of Jobs agitated Scully to be a CEO of “Apple” and he became CEO of “Apple”.

After some times Scully took over all charge of Apple and forced Jobs to move out of Apple by offering $150 million. Jobs didn’t want to move out of Apple but Scully force him and after all he left Apple.

After leaving Apple Jobs established new company named “Next”. But the success of that company was not as much as apple. After that he bought another company “Pixar”. But still he was not satisfied. So then he moved his concentration on software and internet.

In 1996, Apple bought ‘Next’ so now Steve Jobs got his throne back. And became CEO of Apple.

In 1997, Microsoft did some agreements with Apple though at that time Microsoft had a big name than Apple. Because Apple’s strengths was its customers. Its customers were so much loyal to Apple and because of that Microsoft was not able to capture the market.

And from 1998 to till now Steve Jobs made so many products like i-pod, i-tunes, i-pad, i-phone and may more. Steve Jobs was the first one who came with the concept of different-different colors in computers. Before that computers were only available in black color.

I-pod has some interesting story. When Steve Jobs launched i-pod, It was so much costly. So only few people of society can afford it. When Steve Jobs launched i-pod in market he wanted to target only 1% of all over world market. Because at that time sony was at its peak.

Due to i-pod in America crime rate was increased by 15-20%. How? Let me explain. As I mentioned in above paragraph that i-pod was so much costly when it was new to market. So only few rich people of society could bought it. Now the differentiation between i-pod and walkman was its ear plug. Ear plug of Apple was in white color and walkman was in black color. So when people moved out with their apple i-pod other could clearly got that its Apple’s i-pod because of ear plug’s color. And thus how thieves in America came to know that whether the person moved on street was rich or not? And then they used to rob that person.

Once up on a time Steve job was suffering from cancer. Doctor thought that there was no second chance for Steve jobs but due to proper treatment he survived and now totally out of cancer.

Incredible

How many things in this world are free? Just give thought to your mind.
After thinking heavily, I know you must be arrived at natural resources. Even I got the same answer. But think again, is it?
No, it isn’t.

Suppose if we take an example of sun, completely natural resources. Many of us think that the light we get from sun is free but things are not like that. Sun takes very high value from all of us for giving us a free light. Sun takes one whole day of our life.

How?

Just think on this “everything, which is created has to be destructed”
As per this rule we all humans are creation of god and we all have certain time with us to live. After that there is a death. So how does sun come in to the picture?
Suppose if you know that you have only 100 days to live. So how are you going to determine these 100 days? When sun rise your day begin and when it goes your day end. Your one day is over. And now you have only 99 days.
So now you must be clear that how much big amount sun takes from our life for providing its light.
